As a child, chocolate covered cherries were one of my favorite dessserts (and okay, I still love them). I remember my Gran-meme always used to keep a box of chocolate covered cherries in her bedroom and when we'd go over for our Sunday dinners, she'd always find a way to sneak me couple under the table without anyone noticing. Whenever I see a chocolate covered cherry now, I can't help but smile thinking of her.
This smoothie takes all of the flavor of an old childhood favorite and makes it into a healthy morning breakfast or an afternoon summer treat.
Together cherries and cacao are an antioxidant rich power couple, and paring them with the protien density of the hempseeds and mood balancing properties of the adaptogens, this well rounded smoothie is a great way to satisfy your sweettooth and steep your body in some deep, nourishing whole foods.
Cherry Cacao Smoothie
(Serves 2)
3 Cups Frozen Cherries
4 Pitted Dates
1/2 Tsp Vanilla Extract
1 Tbsp Hemp Seeds
1 Tbsp Rolled Oats
1 Tbsp Honey
3/4 Cup Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk (Or Other Plant Milk of your choice)
Cacao Nibs
Place all ingredients (except for the cacao nibs) in a high-speed blender and blend on high for about one minute.
Serve in your favorite glass and top with cacao nibs for an extra energy boost and a hint of deep dark chcolate flavor.
